The first stage of the Atkins diet in known as the Induction Stage. Ok sweetie you may need to sit down for this, when you are on this stage you will only be allowed to eat a very small amount of carbohydrates a day. To be precise you will only be allowed 20 net you carbohydrates per day. And that's not all, the majority of these carbohydrates will come from vegetables. That's right honey, no bread, or none of Aunt Stella's famous lasagna. Another thing is you won't be allowed to eat any sweet fruits on this stage as well. When you reduce the amount the amount of carbohydrates that you make available to your body it will run out of carbohydrates and start to burn fat for energy. Now this all may sound pretty gloomy to you but this is temporary. You will spend at least 2 weeks on this stage. However the amount of time you will spend on this stage will vary from person to person based on how much total weight you have to lose.

The next phase of the Atkins diet is known as the Ongoing Weight Loss or OWL stage. Once you've gotten to this stage you'll be able to introduce some carbohydrates back into your diet. Now honey, understand you can't go back to eating the way you were eating before. You need to increase your carbohydrates slightly. Each week you will increase your carbohydrate intake just a little bit. You continue to do this until stop losing weight. Once you have reached that point you will be close to personal carbohydrate level. You will lower your carbohydrate level so you star the weight loss process back up again.
