You were paying attention when we talked about LNB's weren't you? Lets review just in case. As a rule of thumb you are going to need one LNB per receiver/TV. If you are going to be using Dish Network you are going to be using one of their brand of receivers. If you are using DirecTV you will have a choice of manufacturers. Whichever DSS provider you use make sure you get a receiver that has the features you need and want:HDTV Compatible: If you already own or plan to buy a HDTV in the next few years get and HDTV receiver. If you're not don't pay for something you'll never use. One thing I can say is the picture quality is truly amazing.Home Theatre compatible: Are you planning on building or integrating the DSS into a complete home theatre? If so make sure you get a receiver that has those features. You are going to need a digital audio connection to take advantage of the Dolby Sound. To keep the picture quality at it's highest use and S-Video output and cable instead of the standard coaxial connection. It really does make a difference in the quality of the pictureRemote Control: Make sure the remote has the features and functions you need. Also make sure it's not so small you are constantly loosing it, and not to big that you'll need to buy a new coffee table. Make sure you know how the remote works is it Infrared (IR) or radio Frequency (RF). IR remotes need a clear unobstructed path from the remote to the receiver.Lockout controls: Now if and when you ever decide to make me a grandmother you are going to need this. There are some programs that just aren't meant for kids and this gives you the ability to control that.Personal Video Recorder: Personal Video Recorders or PVR's allow you to "store" programs on the satellite receiver. Think of it as VCR with a built in tape. Your father still doesn't understand it, but as long as he can watch the game he's happy. You still with me? Ok let's go on to the Satellite TV Review
